About the award
In 2023, in tribute to Benoît Schaeffer, a photojournalist who passed away in 2020, the SAIF launched the SAIF / Benoît Schaeffer Grant for photographic publishing.
This grant aims to give due recognition to the career of a professional press and/or documentary photographer who needs support to create a printed monographic work.
This grant is open to French or foreign candidates residing in France who are presenting a publication project in association with a publishing house.

2015 - Alfonso Moral for "Syria Street"
The consequences of the Syrian conflict on the city of Tripoli, where two communities survive: the Alawite supporters of Bashar al-Assad, and the Sunnis, separated by Syria Street. On both sides of the front line, young men clash in a recurring conflict that has become a grim routine for them.
2014 - Kosuke Okahara for "Any Given Day".
A long-term project on drugs in Colombia that shows the endless cycle of violence in Cali. Cali, the center of cocaine production, is ranked among the 10 cities in the world with the highest crime rate.
2013 - Arnau Bach for "Marseille"
Arnaud Bach explores the inner-city neighborhood, known for its high crime rate, where traditional fishermen have gradually seen their share of the port diminish and residents have been forced to leave the working-class neighborhoods of the city center.
2012 - Maciek Nabrdalik for "Economic Migration".
Maciek went to Portugal, where immigration has dropped by 40% since the economic crisis hit. He focused on Anabela, a young artist who decided to leave Lisbon and start a new life in London.
2010 - Lizzie Saadin for "Promised Land, Promised Women"
The trafficking of women and teenage girls in Israel. Every year, between 3,000 and 5,000 women and teenage girls are victims of human trafficking and brought to Israel to work mainly in the sex trade.
2009 - Masie Crow for "Lost in the Cycle of Poverty".
The emotional effects that poverty can have on an individual, through the eyes of a young woman, April, who lives well below the poverty line in southeastern Ohio.
2008 - Jean Chung for "Tears in the Congo"
Jean spent time with women in the Congo who have been raped and sexually abused. Her work shows the physiological, psychological, and social consequences of the horrors they have endured.
